Our History
Continuing the mission of the Great Physician
Our family, the Lundays, have been serving as BIMI missionaries to Brazil since 1990. At the request of a national pastor, we lead our first evangelistic team to the Amazon basin in 2006. We soon learned that many villages in that region were unreached and closed to the gospel for two principle reasons; 1) The difficulty in accessing these remote areas. The only way to get to these villages is if someone were to specifically go there by boat or by foot. 2) The door to these villages has been closed due to the unwillingness of the villagers to receive outsiders into their villages. On our first trip there was an unfortunate incident which led us to discover a key which could open these doors. In one of the villages where we visited we were met by a couple who had recently been involved in a domestic dispute, which led to the wife taking a machete to her husband’s arm. Actually she was aiming elsewhere, but he raised his arm in self defense, which unfortunately resulted in a gash ten centimeters long. The only doctor on hand was a veterinarian who was traveling with our team. He was able to suture the wound and provide antibiotics. But more importantly, we were able to present the gospel clearly to this family, who gladly put their trust in Christ. Through that incident other villagers began to come to us, which resulted in an open door for our national pastor to begin Bible studies in the village. The following year we made the decision to visit another remote region of the Amazon, but this time we had a medical team to accompany our evangelistic team. The results were amazing and in five days time we had treated over 1500 patients, saw over 100 put their trust in Christ and three new struggling church plants were boosted to be thriving works. Thus Amazon for Christ was born and each year since we have lead med-evangelism teams to help national pastors and missionaries plant churches in the Amazon basin, which has lead us beyond the borders of Brazil into other countries which make up the vast Amazon basin. Pray for us as we Continue the Mission of the Great Physician into all nine countries which encompass the Amazon basin; Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela and French Guiana, a territory of France
